News Release: Catholic Housing and Community Services Commends The Passage Of The Pennsylvania Low-Income Housing Tax Credit Program

Catholic Housing and Community Services of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia (CHCS), which provides a continuum of care to older adults throughout the Philadelphia region, commends the recent passage of Senate Bill 30 (S.B. 30) and its signature into law creating the Pennsylvania Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) program.

Currently, affordable housing for seniors in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is financed with a Federal Tax Credit. Pennsylvania’s LIHTC will provide additional and critical funding support for the construction of affordable housing developments. In turn, those developments will provide families, children, and seniors with the opportunity to enjoy a higher quality of life.

Ms. Heather Huot, Director of CHCS, said, “As an affordable senior housing provider, CHCS witnesses the profound need for affordable housing every day.  No senior should have to wait years to access an affordable apartment.  We applaud the Commonwealth for taking this important step toward increasing funding for this critical need.”

CHCS’ affordable senior housing programs enable seniors to remain active in their communities while enjoying comfortable, stylish apartment living. CHCS’ affordable senior housing communities include Casa Carmen Aponte Apartments (Kensington); Saint John Neumann Place and Saint John Neumann Place II (South Philadelphia); Nativity B.V.M. Place (Port Richmond); and Saint Francis Villa (Kensington).

CHCS will also be adding to its growing portfolio of affordable housing for independent seniors Saint Rita Place in South Philadelphia. Construction is underway and the residence is expected to open in the fall of 2021. CHCS will also add Saint Joseph Place in Collingdale (Delaware County), the first senior housing community developed by CHCS outside the City of Philadelphia.
