Message to CHCS Seniors and Families on Coronavirus
Over the last few weeks, health and safety concerns have arisen among older adults over the prevalence of coronavirus (COVID-19). Providing for the health, safety, and welfare of the seniors we serve as well as our CHCS employees, is utmost important to us. As such, we have been monitoring developments related to coronavirus closely.
Under the guidance of the PA Department of Health and the Center for Disease Control, CHCS has responded to the outbreak by distributing trusted facts, flyers, and information to those who benefit from CHCS programming and services.
As of Wednesday, March 11th there is no evidence to suggest the presence of coronavirus in any CHCS facility. We are sharing the following practices out of an abundance of caution. They are based on guidelines set forth by the Centers for Diseases Control (CDC) for those who are at higher risk.
Older adults can practice everyday prevention measures like frequent hand washing; staying home when sick; covering coughs and sneezes; avoid touching eyes, nose, and mouth; and disinfecting frequently touched objects and surfaces.
Family members, caregivers, and neighbors can also support older adults during this time by knowing what medications your loved one is taking and see if you can help them have extra on hand; monitoring food and other medical supplies needed and create a back-up plan; and stocking up on non-perishable food items to have on hand to minimize trips to stores.
Please be assured of our continued prayers for those affected by this virus.
