Good Things Come to Those Who Wait

Across the Archdiocese, seniors in our parishes are caring for their adult children with special needs.  As a parent’s health begins to decline, this becomes increasingly challenging.  A mother in one of our parishes reached out to Catholic Housing and Community Services for help in 2012.  Her adult son lives with autism and she has cared for him his whole life.  Our geriatric care manager assisted the family in applying for services in 2012, but the wait was long!  She did not give up and neither did the family.  Every three months, she called to check on his place on the waiting list and stayed connected to the family.  Finally, this November, he was approved for services!  He and his mother will be able to stay in their home and parish now that the support they need is in place. This advent season, let us not forget that the waiting can be long and difficult, but is full of hope and promise!
