Fashion Show Event Encourages Creativity Among Saint Edmond Senior Community Center Members
In 2023, a highlight for senior citizens at the Saint Edmond Senior Community Center was the fashion show, which featured creativity and participation from many members.
Saint Edmond, one of five senior centers operated by Catholic Housing and Community Services of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia (CHCS), is located in the Point Breeze section of South Philadelphia and provides a broad range of services for those 60 years of age and older. CHCS senior centers offer opportunities for socialization, recreation, physical exercise, education, and nutritional support with a focus on overall health, wellness, and independence.
The centers feature a broad spectrum of activities such as art classes, trips, health education, nursing services, exercise programs, and wellness initiatives.
“We host fashion shows throughout the year with different themes,” says Kimberly Beatty, Saint Edmond Center Manager. “Such events not only offer entertainment but also create a sense of community and shared celebration.”
Saint Edmond hosted three fashion shows at the center in 2023 and hopes to continue the event in 2024.
Through the inclusion of various styles, from casual wear to evening attire, the event provides a diverse and inclusive showcase for all members to be seen and to shine.
Most recently, Saint Edmond hosted a “Holiday Glam” themed Christmas fashion show to bring the festive spirit to the members of the center. The theme reflects a “wonderful array of winter-inspired outfits, including cozy sweaters, elegant dresses, and accessories in traditional Christmas colors like red and silver,” notes Beatty.
“I spearheaded the organization of fashion shows, admiring the diverse styles and unique personalities of my fellow members,” said Advisory Board Member and volunteer Brenda Mitchell. “It was inspiring to see the array of fashion choices and individual senses of humor among us.”
Beatty added that Mitchell’s “passion for organizing fashion shows and encouraging shy members to participate adds a special touch to the occasion.”
The event’s atmosphere, complemented by Christmas music and a variety of tunes selected by the models, contributed to a joyful and celebratory ambiance among the members.
